Donna Wach, Director of Sales & Marketing Aventura at the Heights

BJH: Welcome, and thank you for joining us today. Could you start by telling us about your recent appointment at Aventura?

Donna Wach: Absolutely, and thank you for having me. I recently took on the role of Director of Sales and Marketing at Aventura, having joined the team a couple months ago. It’s been an exhilarating start, diving into this vibrant facility in the heart of the  community.

BJH: That sounds like a significant transition. Can you share a bit about your journey to Baltimore and your background?

Donna Wach: Of course. My husband, Sam, and I moved from New York to Baltimore 35 years ago, seeking a change of pace and community. Baltimore has since become our cherished home, where we raised our three sons and immersed ourselves in various community organizations, contributing to the active Jewish life here.

BJH: Your community involvement is impressive. How have these experiences influenced your career path, especially your move to Aventura?

Donna Wach: My path has been shaped significantly by my community engagement and personal growth. After dedicating years to raising my family and working in small businesses, I ventured into healthcare, becoming a certified occupational therapy assistant. This role filled 18 rewarding years of my career. The transition to Aventura was motivated by my desire to serve the Jewish community in a more direct and impactful manner, leveraging my background in healthcare and community service.

BJH: What excites you most about your role at Aventura?

Donna Wach: The opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of our residents and their families is profoundly fulfilling. Aventura is not just about providing a place to live; it’s about creating a community where every resident feels valued, supported, and connected to their Jewish heritage. It’s about enhancing quality of life, not just for our residents but also for their families, by offering peace of mind and a sense of belonging.

BJH: Could you elaborate on Aventura’s engagement with the local Jewish community and the specific programs you offer?

Donna Wach: Aventura is deeply rooted in the Jewish community, offering fully certified kosher living and a range of Jewish programming. Our Rabbi provides spiritual support, leads Shabbas services, and fosters a strong Jewish atmosphere within our community. We’re also focused on expanding our volunteer program, inviting community members to engage with our residents through a variety of activities, and reinforcing the bridge between Aventura and the broader Jewish community.

BJH: It’s clear that Aventura provides a holistic environment for its residents. Can you detail the amenities and services that set Aventura apart?

Donna Wach: Our approach is to offer worry-free living that caters to the individual needs of our residents. This includes private accommodations, comprehensive care plans covering everything from medication management to daily living activities, and a robust calendar of social, educational, and spiritual activities. We also emphasize the importance of personal choice and autonomy, this can be seen in how each individual decorates their own spaces and engages in those activities that bring them joy and fulfillment.

BJH: That personal touch must mean a lot to the residents and their families. On a more personal note, what keeps you motivated and inspired in your work?

Donna Wach: What inspires me most is seeing the impact of our work on the lives of our residents. Knowing that we’re providing a safe, nurturing environment where seniors can thrive and connect with their heritage is incredibly rewarding. Additionally, the stories and experiences of our residents enrich my life and the lives of our staff, creating a mutually beneficial relationship that goes beyond the typical dynamics of care.

BJH: Before we conclude, is there a piece of advice or a motto that has guided you through your career and life?

Donna Wach: A guiding principle for me has been the importance of kindness and the power of a smile. “Be the reason someone smiles today” is a motto I live by. It’s simple yet impactful, reminding us that our actions, no matter how small, can significantly affect others’ lives. This ethos is something I bring to Aventura every day, striving to create an environment where smiles are abundant, and everyone feels valued.

BJH: Your dedication to fostering such a positive atmosphere is truly commendable. Thank you for sharing your insights and experiences with us today.

Donna Wach: Thank you for the opportunity to discuss my role at Aventura and the incredible community we serve. I’m excited about the journey ahead and the difference we can make together.
