As the JCSL by MDSC regular season enters its final stretch with only three games remaining, every contest is taking on added significance. The Ashley Custom Homes playoff picture is beginning to come into focus, but plenty remains unsettled as teams jockey for postseason positioning and battle for a chance to capture the coveted Premier Financial championship trophy. This week’s slate featured dominant pitching, offensive outbursts, veteran leadership, and a few teams making timely pushes as the race toward October softball intensifies.
PsychCare Sweeps Doubleheader
PsychCare continued its strong season with a pair of victories, beginning with a commanding 10-0 shutout of Web Interactive Technologies. Akiva Furman wasted no time getting the offense started, launching a leadoff home run in the first inning. Aharon Adler was brilliant on the mound, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing only a handful of hits.
PsychCare completed the sweep with a 9-6 victory over CREZLY. After building an early 8-1 lead, PsychCare relied on timely defense to hold off a late rally. Feisty “Slicey” Meisty made a highlight-reel scoop at first base, while Furman cut down a runner attempting to advance to third, helping preserve the win and finish off a perfect day.
Orshan Legal Keeps Rolling
Orshan Legal remained undefeated with another doubleheader sweep, showcasing the veteran composure that has defined its season.
Game 1 was a tightly contested battle that ultimately turned on a clutch RBI by Shlomo Rosenstein. The Orshan Legal outfield of Eli Kelemer, Elazar Freedman, Yehuda Pensak, Gedalia Gelb, and Moshe Mutterperl covered seemingly every ball hit their way. Meir Samberg was a constant presence on the bases, while Gedalia Gelb earned this week’s Middos Alert by making absolutely certain to touch second base after homering.
In Game 2, ace Danny Weissmann delivered four outstanding innings of one-run ball. Aaron Lefky, Yehuda Pensak, Tzi Perlman, and company provided plenty of offense, while Rosenstein continued his torrid day at the plate and his stellar defense at first base. The 11-9 victory kept Orshan Legal perfect and firmly atop the standings.
Lazar Real Estate Outlasts CREZLY
After a lengthy hiatus, Lazar Real Estate and CREZLY returned to action in a game that often felt more like a walk-a-thon than a softball game. Between the two teams, well over two dozen walks were issued, and CREZLY cycled through five different pitchers during the shortened seven-inning contest.
Lazar jumped out early and used a six-run second inning to seize control. Gershon Vegh, Walt “TFL” Johnson, Shmuel Artman, Yitzchok Sheen, Ben Blackman, and Yacov Benzaquen all helped fuel the rally. After CREZLY battled back in the middle innings, Lazar put the game away with another six-run outburst in the fifth.
The biggest hit of the afternoon belonged to veteran Ben Blackman, who ripped a towering double down the line to ignite the offense. Behind steady leadership and patient at-bats, Lazar emerged with a 14-10 victory.
And as he’s done all season long, team chef, Shmuel Artman ensured his teammates remained well-nourished throughout the long doubleheader, spending portions of the game operating a hibachi station behind home plate. Between innings, teammates were treated to steak, chicken, grilled vegetables, and several onion volcanoes, all of which complied with league safety regulations.
Rumors circulated afterward that following the win, Lazar Real Estate held not one but two team meetings and selflessly agreed to lose their next game so the rest of the league wouldn’t lose hope. Whether fact or fiction, it was certainly a tremendous display of achdus.
Tov Pizza Turns Up the Heat
After dropping the opening game of its doubleheader, Tov Pizza responded in emphatic fashion. The bats came alive early and never cooled off as Tov piled up hit after hit, eventually forcing a pitching change while cruising to a 14-2 mercy-rule victory in five innings. The win keeps Tov firmly in the playoff hunt as the regular season winds down.
YL Waitering Sends a Message
The defending champions may have started slowly, but YL Waitering reminded everyone why they’re still a team to fear.
Led by leadoff sparkplug Simcha Malin and a first-inning grand slam from Avrumi Friedman, YL jumped ahead early against Lazar Real Estate. After Lazar battled back, Yaakov Furman delivered the go-ahead hit in the third inning.
Jason Mann starred on both sides of the ball, driving in four runs while playing flawless defense at third base. Koby Leder continued his outstanding season with a 4-for-5 performance, while Aroni Levine contributed two doubles and Mendy Rauh made an immediate impact in his return from injury.
The game’s defining moment came when Mayer Goldsmith escaped a bases-loaded jam by striking out two consecutive hitters before fielding a ground ball himself to end the threat. Yoni Levin added three hits and capped off his debut in left field with a spectacular game-ending sliding catch.
The sweep improved YL to 3-3 and served notice that the reigning champions are beginning to find their form at exactly the right time.

Some teams are battling for seeding, others are fighting to secure a postseason berth, and a few are building the momentum that could carry them all the way to the Premier Financial championship trophy.
