613 Seconds with TAG Baltimore

BJH: TAG Baltimore has become a true vital resource in our community. For those who may not know, can you share what TAG is all about and how your team is making a difference?

TAG Baltimore: Absolutely. TAG stands for Technology Awareness Group. TAG is dedicated to assisting people in navigating the complex digital landscape. Our objective is to empower individuals to use technology in a safe and responsible manner and to ensure that every person served by TAG is comfortable with the guidance and service provided. We assist the community as they engage with the ever-evolving digital landscape by offering consultations, support, and hands-on services like device filtering.

BJH: It sounds like you’re addressing a need that’s only grown in recent years.

TAG Baltimore: That’s exactly right. Technology touches every part of our lives—education, business, communication. While it brings tremendous opportunity, it also presents challenges. That’s why TAG Baltimore is here—not to say “no” to technology, but to empower our community to say “yes” responsibly, with the right protections in place.

BJH: Can you share some numbers that show how much TAG Baltimore has grown?

TAG Baltimore: Definitely. The growth in 2024 has been significant. Just to give you a snapshot:

  • We provided 2,422 consultations—a 26% increase over last year.
  • We handled 4,452 support emails, which is a 59% increase.
  • Our team responded to 2,580 support calls, marking a 43% increase.
  • We serviced 2,052 devices, up 18% from 2023.
  • Most notably, our volunteers and staff dedicated 6,989 hours of service—a 45% increase!

These numbers reflect both rising demand and our expanded capacity to serve. It’s not just more volume; it’s deeper engagement and wider reach.

BJH: That’s truly impressive. What would you say is driving this surge?

TAG Baltimore: A few things. First, increased awareness—families and schools now understand more than ever the risks of unfiltered access and the need for proper guidance. Second, the technology itself has become more complex. And third, our reputation—word of mouth plays a big role. People trust that we’re knowledgeable, effective, and aligned with our community’s values.

BJH: It seems like this kind of growth needs serious support. Tell us about your upcoming annual campaign.

TAG Baltimore: We’re very excited about our campaign, which runs Sunday through Tuesday, May 11–13, and we invite the entire community to join us at shiftyourfuture.org. Every dollar will be matched by a group of generous donors.

The theme this year is “Shift Your Future,” a play on the computer keyboard design featured in our materials. It’s a reminder that with just a small shift—like pressing the “Shift” key—we can transform outcomes. That’s what TAG helps people do every day: shift how they interact with technology and, ultimately, how they shape their lives and families.

Even seemingly minor choices—like enabling a filter, delaying a device, or setting boundaries—can have profound and lasting effects. These shifts don’t just change how we use technology today; they shape the values, habits, and well-being of the next generation. Small changes, big futures—that’s the power of shifting with intention.

This campaign is critical. TAG’s ability to serve the community—offering free guidance, training volunteers, and staying ahead of ever-changing digital challenges—relies entirely on your support. Every dollar raised directly strengthens our collective ability to protect homes, support schools, and guide families toward healthier, more intentional tech use. The impact is real and far-reaching: smarter choices, stronger values, and a safer digital environment for our entire community.

BJH: How can people get involved?

TAG Baltimore: First and foremost, visit shiftyourfuture.org. Our goal is broad participation—not just large donations. Every contribution, big or small, sends a clear message: our community values safe technology and wants to see TAG continue to grow and thrive.

BJH: Before we wrap up, any message you’d like to leave readers with?

TAG Baltimore: Absolutely—this work is about the future. Not just about devices or filters, but about the future of our children, our schools, and the values we hold dear. Every consultation we offer, every device we service, is one more scroll in the right direction. It’s an honor to be part of this journey, and we’re deeply grateful to everyone who partners with us to make it possible. For more information or to make an appointment visit us at tagbaltimore.org.
